The US-China trade war has entered a volatile new chapter, with President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping set to meet on Thursday to address it.
The meeting will be in South Korea, on the sidelines of the APEC summit. From Tokyo, Trump was optimistic, saying the “big meeting” is “going to work out very well.”
The new chapter began with China’s rare earth controls and a US 100% tariff threat.
New US port fees and subsequent Chinese countermeasures have added to the volatility.
Trump, however, predicted a “fantastic meeting” and a positive outcome “for everybody.”
“We will be going to South Korea and the following day I am meeting with President Xi,” Trump confirmed, emphasizing the meeting’s place on his high-stakes Asia itinerary.
