In a significant milestone celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence, President Donald Trump inaugurated the IndyCar Freedom 250 in Washington, DC. The president signaled the start of the race by waving the green flag and participated in a ceremonial lap around the temporary 1.7-mile street circuit in the presidential limousine, famously known as “The Beast.”
The event, which unfolded in the heart of Washington, demanded extensive preparations. More than 200 manhole covers along the race route were reportedly secured, and protective measures were implemented to shield the nearby museums, monuments, and public infrastructure from potential vibrations and disturbances caused by the race.
The Freedom 250 boasted a rare occurrence of a major motorsport event taking place on the streets of the US capital. It was further accentuated with military aircraft flyovers and other ceremonial displays, adding to the grandeur of the celebrations. The race saw IndyCar drivers completing 147 laps, covering a distance of approximately 250 miles.
